Introduction and Background
This survey asks about three significant changes to Fox Wood Special School and Green Lane Special School in order to increase the number of SEND school places in Warrington. A. Establish that Fox Wood operates on two satellite school sites of Fox Cubs located at Sandy Lane in Orford (WA2 9HY) and by moving the post-16 provision to the Peace Centre building at Peace Drive in Great Sankey (WA5 1HQ).This is in addition to the main site on Holes Lane.B. Increase capacity of Fox Wood to a 2-form entry school of 252 school places for pupils aged 4 – 19 years, which includes 60 places in post-16 provision.C. Change of age range at Green Lane from 4–19 to 4–16 with effect from 1st September 2025, with the transfer of post-16 students and relevant staff to Fox Wood Special School in September 2025.Based on the proposed changes, we will achieve the following objectives:
- Fox Wood currently has 119 pupils aged 4 to 16, and the proposal will increase provision to 192 places.- Woolston Sixth Form College currently has 45 places which will expand to 60 places at the Peace Centre site.- Green Lane currently has 209 aged 4 to 16 pupils with capacity for 220 places. These changes will support an increase minimum of 100 special school places to meet the special educational needs of pupils and Warrington families, and an increase in specialist post-16 provision.More information about these proposals, including the Statutory Notice and frequently asked questions can be found on our website Resident | warrington.gov.ukThe publication of the statutory notice of significant changes for Fox Wood Special School and Green Lane Special School opens a four-week window for representation.
