School Nurses are registered nurses, who have additional specialist community public health nursing training (SCPHN). They support children and families with children aged between 5 to 19 years (up to 25 years for young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)). The service supports the health and wellbeing of the whole family, ensuring children reach their full potential.

The School Nursing service also supports schools by delivering:

·         additional help to children at key transition points

·         training for schools on management of health conditions (in Lowestoft and
Waveney training is provided by James Paget Hospital NHS Trust)

The service delivers the National Child Measurement programme (weight and height) as well as hearing and vision screening.

As part of our continued drive to ensure children's services meet the needs of the Suffolk population, we are looking at how the School Nursing Service supports the needs of children and families in Suffolk. You can help by sharing your views on the current service, so we understand what is important to you.
