Self funders survey Autumn 2024

This survey is about people in Surrey who currently live in a care home and pay for their accommodation (and their food and care) fully themselves, as well as those whose families provide a top up to pay for all costs in a care home. It should be completed by the family or friends of the care home resident, although it can be completed by the resident if they wish to do so.

If you have more than one friend or family member who has residential/ nursing care needs, please complete one survey for each person individually.

Surrey County Council is conducting a communications awareness campaign to ensure people who are thinking about their future care needs have the right information. To support this initiative Surrey County Council would like to understand the journey that current self funder care home residents have experienced, how they have come to live in a care home, what other options were considered, and where they went for information and advice.  This will help them, and key agencies involved in a person's care, provide the right information, at the right time, and in the right places for people looking at long term care arrangements.

In order to ensure this communications campaign reaches people and has the information that people need, Surrey County Council has approached us to understand more about the experiences of people who are currently self funding their care.

Healthwatch Surrey champions the voice of local people to shape, improve and get the best from NHS, health and social care services. As an independent statutory body, we have the power to make sure decision makers listen to your feedback.

Responses to this survey are anonymous. The closing date for the survey is 7th February.

*5 people who complete the survey before 7th February will be selected at random to receive a £10 voucher. Those selected will be notified within 1 month of the close of the survey.
