Retail crime has a significant impact, not only on retail workers and business owners, but on entire communities.
We want to work with you to tackle your ongoing concerns, and ensure your voice is heard.
Retail crime is not ‘low-value’ offending. It can be extremely distressing, both for victims and witnesses.
As well as the economic, emotional and sometimes physical harm caused, this criminality can make those who live and work in Surrey feel less safe.
That’s why we are asking those directly impacted by retail crime to have their say. We want to better-understand the true scale of offending in Surrey, and your experiences with reporting crime to Surrey Police.
There is also an opportunity within the survey to provide more information about the impact retail crime has had on you, make suggestions or give feedback for the Force, or tell us anything else you would like to include.
Reports of retail crime as rising, in Surrey and around the country.
But we are pleased to say that arrests and resolutions in the county are improving.
In the past year, almost 1,300 arrests for shop thefts have been made, up from 555 in the preceding 12 months.
At the same time, the number of retail crimes detected by the Force has more than doubled, from 636 to 1,537.
We are refreshing our strategy on retail crime, and our Neighbourhood Policing Teams are being bolstered as we recognise the need for timely, high-quality investigations.
Please do share this survey among your networks to help us hear from as many people as possible.
Thank you for taking the time to have your say.
Please note – this survey is not a reporting tool. If you see a crime in progress, please call 999. If an immediate response is not required, please reporting offending to us via our online reporting tools or our online webchat.
