Where we plan to develop

4-16 Filwood Broadway is an existing mixed-use site at the north end of Filwood Broadway, between the former Cinema site and the existing convent.

Site Location Plan

Initial site plan

The following plans show the proposed ground floor and first floor plans.

First Floor/Typical - Plan:

The Proposal

Initial sketch options for the site indicate space for up to 400 square meters of new space for shops or community uses, 18 new affordable homes, and a communal amenity space for residents. The proposal is for the block to be four stories in height, with the top floor accommodation within a set-back roof space. The homes are expected to be a combination of one and two bedroom flats. These homes will be sustainable and low carbon. Sufficient parking space is being provided as part of the new access road for the neighbouring ‘Former Filwood Cinema’ development being led by Bristol City Council.

Rebuilding the Facade

We are translating the architectural character of the existing art deco façade into the proposals, by re-instating the rhythm, proportions, and brick articulation of the existing building.

Proposed High Street Elevation:

High Street Retail/Community Spaces

Flexible, active commercial spaces will support the long-term livelihood of Filwood Broadway. We want to create spaces for new businesses and community uses to thrive. Over the coming months, the design of these spaces will be developed with the Filwood High Street Delivery Plan team to ensure it ties in with the plans for the wider high street works.

Sketch proposal of shopfronts:

A Communal Heart to the Rear for Residents

We are proposing a deck access so that every resident can have sunshine and ventilation from both the front and back of their flats, to encourage social interaction and enable views down onto a communal garden for residents. The communal garden will be for residents only, and will include high quality planting, and spaces for rest and relaxation.

Proposed view from the communal resident's garden at the rear of the site:

1. Do you support the principle of redeveloping this site for new affordable housing and commercial/community uses?

2. Do you support the proposed layout and design for the site?
