The AHP Preceptorship Programme is a step-to-step guide to help with the transition from student to Newly Qualified in the five Allied Health Professions groups  - Dietetics, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Podiatry and Speech and Language Therapy.  The Pan-London AHP Preceptorship Programme has been delivered across the nine Mental Health Trusts in London during 2020 following a successful bid from Health Education England. 

Achievements in the nine month project:

• Partnership with London South Bank University (LSBU) – Linked with the Work-Based Learning Module; Band 5 AHP preceptees can gain 20 credit points towards a Level 7 Masters Qualification using the Preceptorship Portfolio.
•There has been a 27% success in upskilling (internal and external) the Band 5 AHP preceptees into Band 6 AHP roles
•Demonstrated a 17% improvement in retention with Band 5 AHPs promoted into Band 6 AHP roles within the nine Mental Health NHS Trusts
•The Programme has enrolled over 150 Band 5 AHP preceptees across London and they actively use the Portfolio and attend the monthly meetings
Over 100 Band 6 and 7 AHP preceptors have been trained across London in the AHP Preceptorship Model

• 85% agree/strongly agree the programme is beneficial/essential for their development
• 94% agree/strongly agree that they would recommend the programme to an NQP AHP
• 74% agree/strongly agree it has helped with their overall job satisfaction
• 68% agree/strongly agree it has led to improvement in patient care
• 88% agree/strongly agree that they have valued feeling part of wider AHP Community

The AHP Preceptorship Programme includes:

•Monthly Band 5 AHP Preceptorship Meetings – covering generic AHP CPD topics and opportunity to network with other NQP AHP’s.
•Band 6 & 7 AHP Preceptorship Training – virtual 3 hour training due to COVID19, we have changed this to a full day workshop in 2021. 
•1:1 Introductory Meeting with Band 5 AHP Preceptees – offered a 1:1 to all Band 5 AHP preceptees to support their portfolio development
•Bi-Monthly Band 6 & 7 AHP Preceptor Support Groups – provided an opportunity for Band 6 & 7 AHP Preceptors to network/share experiences & ideas as well as sharing of resources and updates on the programme.
•Preceptorship Portfolio – all Band 5 AHP Preceptees are provided with a portfolio which covers the five core competencies; Communication, People & Personal Development, Health, Safety & Security, Quality as well as Equality & Diversity.  Also included is a section on Post & Profession Specific and observed clinical practice.
