What is Pharmacy First?
Your local pharmacy can now treat these conditions without the need for a GP appointment:
- Sinusitis - swollen nasal passages aged 12 years and over
- Sore throat aged 5 years and over
- Infected insect bite aged 1 year and over
- Impetigo - a bacterial skin infection aged 1 year and over
- Shingles aged 18 years and over
- Earache aged 1 to 17 years
- Simple urinary tract infection (water infection) women aged 16 years to 64 years
You can ask for a private discussion with the Pharmacist about these conditions. Your GP or the 111 helpline service may also refer you to the Pharmacist. The Pharmacist may prescribe an antibiotic or antiviral medicine. They may suggest over-the-counter treatments and any self-help treatments that could help. They will ask for your consent to access your medical records.
