Museum MOT 2024 Expression of Interest

1. About this project

Museum MOT (Organisational Health Check) - Application Form

Created by Museum Development England (MDE), the Museum MOT (also known as the Organisational Health Check) is a self-assessment tool to help museums benchmark their activity, identify what they are doing well, and define areas that need improvement.

We are looking to recruit museums from the South East of England to complete the Museum MOT with us in 2024-25.

What’s involved?

Participating museums are asked to complete a facilitated assessment questionnaire. We recommend you form a sub-team consisting of between three and five members (ideally, one senior staff/trustee; one Front-of-House staff/volunteer; one other staff/volunteer). Your local Museum Development Officer will facilitate the conversation and your sub-team will agree one set of scores to submit in the online survey. The link to the online survey is provided in the Offer Letter should you be selected as one of the participants this year.

When you have submitted your survey, your Museum Development Officer will send you a bespoke Advisory Report based on your answers identifying key areas of development and signposting to resources and opportunities for support.  You can then apply for a £3000 grant* from Museum Development South East to address a priority development area identified in the Advisory Report.

*While any museum can take part in the Organisational Health Check self-assessment process, only those meeting our funding eligibility criteria can apply for the Museum MOT grant (i.e., Accredited (fully, provisionally, working towards) museums in the South East region which are non-National and non-NPO (ACE National Portfolio Organisations).

How to apply

To register your interest in taking part in the Museum MOT scheme, please contact your local Museum Development Officer and complete this application form. We will assess applications on a rolling basis from and will notify you within three weeks of submission if you have been accepted.

Deadline

We encourage you to submit your expression of interest as soon as possible, so that there is sufficient time to complete the programme within this financial year. We will assess expressions of interest within three weeks of submission. The final deadline for applying to the scheme is Thursday 17 October 2024.

If you are selected to take part in the programme, you will be sent an Offer Letter with links to the online survey portal. The deadline to submit your final scores into the online survey portal is no later than Monday 25 November 2024.  This must be done after a group discussion, facilitated by one of our Museum Development Officers, has taken place. Once you receive your Advisory Report, you have until 27 January 2025 to submit a grant application for up to £3000 to action change.
