1. Welcome to the IOP Affiliated Society Network

Welcome to the IOP Society Affiliation process. There are a lot of benefits of affiliating your society with the IOP:

  • Affiliation Grant: The IOP will provide a £150 grant to contribute to your society’s activities.
  • Additional Funding: For events that promote the wonder of physics and enable participants to gain experience and knowledge related to their studies and career aspirations, you can bid for an additional funding grant of up to £1000 ((Bronze = £0, Silver = up to £500, Gold = up to £1000). 
  • Support: Advice, signposting and an IOP presence at your events. 
  • Network: Join a growing community of university physics societies and network with them at events like our Student Community Training Day and FUSE, our annual societies get together!
  • Digital resources: Including The Physics society guide, written by members of our community, and a Tiered affiliation framework, which you can read here
  • Local community: Involve your society in a broad range of outreach and engagement opportunities through the IOPs student engagement work and the local branch network.


Please complete the form below to affiliate with the Institute of Physics for the academic year 2024-25. We will support your extra-curricular activities and you will join a network of over 50 physics and related committees around the UK & Ireland in our Affiliated society network.

We hope you can use our materials, funding and support to diversify your activities, widen engagement and increase the impact your society makes in the community this year. 

Once we have received your application and this has been reviewed, we will be in touch with you to confirm your bank details for your affiliation grant and also to provide any further information, including resources and the IOP logo for you to use on your society webpage / where appropriate.

Please note we need two IOP representatives per society committee. Both representatives must be IOP members for the academic year 2024-25.

IOP representatives serve as the link between society committees and the IOP, ensuring key IOP events and activities are communicated to the society, and any support the society needs is communicated to the IOP.

Please provide your IOP representatives contact information below.  Our communications typically include: information for committee members on funding, relevant events for your members, further events/opportunities organised by the Society Network and invitations to IOP student events, forums, conferences.

5. To receive IOP merchandise (pens, pads, water bottles, tote bags and leaflets) for distribution to society members, please provide a university/society delivery address as well as a contact number. If requesting merchandise for an event, please provide an address that is close to the event as merchandise can be quite heavy.
