Glenavy Pedestrian Crossing Consultation

1. Background

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council is inviting residents and businesses of Glenavy Village to ‘have their say’ on the provision of a pedestrian crossing on Main Street in Glenavy.

This consultation will close on Thursday 22 May 2025.

The Department of Infrastructure has carried out a number of surveys in the area and have considered the following factors:

  • the number of pedestrians crossing at a location
  • the number of pedestrians crossing in close proximity
  • the existing road layout, side roads, entrances and nearby facilities that would generate crossing movement throughout the day.

The recommended location for a pedestrian crossing, identified by the Department for Infrastructure, is in the vicinity of Lily’s Kitchen and Bar/the Chip Factory/Hair @ BT29.

In order to facilitate the provision of a crossing in the proposed location, it will be necessary to reduce the number of parking spaces in the laybys. Although, it is anticipated that the loss of car parking will be off set with available parking across the village.
