Glasgow City Council believes that the availability of public toilets is an equality issue, a public health issue and a human right. We believe that access to clean, accessible toilets which meet the needs of people of all genders and abilities is a basic requirement of health, hygiene and personal safety.
In October 2022, Glasgow City Council voted in favour of a motion to adopt a ‘feminist town planning’ strategy, becoming the first Local Authority in the UK to do so.
Within this motion, the Council approved that in order to create public spaces – such as public toilets - that are safe and inclusive for women, and accessible for all members of the community, it is fundamental that women are central to all aspects of planning, public realm design, policy development and budgets.
GCC believes that taking a strategic look at provision across the city would have a positive impact on many people's experiences of enjoying parks and public spaces. This could be particularly true for pregnant people, people with children, young people, disabled people and people with underlying conditions, all of whom may require more frequent use of a toilet.
We are conducting a survey to assess the current state of public toilet facilities and identify areas for improvement. Your feedback is valuable and will help shape better services.
Please note that a public toilet does not have to be Council-run and can include toilets in shopping centres, transport hubs and others.
The survey will take approximately 5-10 minutes to complete.
The deadline for completing this survey is Wednesday 22nd January 2025
We undertake consultation and engagement with the public to give respondents the opportunity to give us their views and opinions, which help shape the policies we make and the services we deliver. However, the Council will not tolerate the use of abusive or obscene language, and these comments/views will be disregarded and not included as part of the response.
