Application | RE Activity Fund

Information

Have an idea for an idea for campaign, event or project in your Rethinking Economics Group? Maybe you need funding to cover certain costs of running your group? Rethinking Economics International wants to support the global Rethinking Economics Network to continue to grow and realise our vison of a reformed economics education.

What is the RE Activity Fund?
The RE Activity Fund is a new fund designed to make the work of the global Rethinking Economics network possible. Applications will be judged on the basis of the following criteria:

  • Impact the result that the grant will have on a RE Group's goals / organisation
  • Collaboration partners that the project will work with (this can be academics, other student groups or other members of the RE Network)
  • Clarity Clearness with which the application is written
  • Urgency Importance of this grant to the continued growth/success of the RE Group / Campaign

How to apply? Who can apply? What are the application requirements?
To apply, you must be an affiliated Local Group, National Network or Action Circle within the Rethinking Economics Network. To apply, please fill in the below application.

 Important!
Make sure your application is as detailed as possible! Being thorough when describing your project idea helps the readers understanding it better. When planning an event, information about its structure, themes, speakers (even if tbc) and target audience are essential for the application to be assessed. If you have any doubts while writing your application, you can reach out to membership@rethinkeconomics.org

When completing the application form please do not use AI generated answers. It's very easy to tell these days and they tend to produce very bland answers. Answers must be in English but if English isn't your first language then feel free to write two versions of each answer, one in English and one in your preferred language.

What is funded?

The RE Activity Fund is designed to do what it's called: support the activity related to the running of your groups or network. That might include covering the costs of hosting your website or of booking rooms at your university. It might also involve the running of bigger events, projects or campaigns. Many formats are possible: conference, workshop, seminar, online campaign, weekend away for your group to plan the activities for the year ahead or something we haven’t thought of yet!

What sort of things does the Activity fund not support?
The RE Activity Fund only supports work that supports the growth of an RE group, network or campaign. Therefore, funding cannot be provided for projects that relate only to an individual, sponsorship of individuals to events or other costs of that sort. If you are unsure as to whether your idea is fundable by the RE Activity Fund, get in touch at membership@rethinkeconomics.org.

Each RE Group (Local Group or National Network) can only submit 1 application per funding period.

NB: RE International signed up to the BDS movement and as such we are not able to support activities that rely on companies subject to boycott. Please check the current BDS boycott targets before you submit your application.

How much can be applied for?
Grants are provided of up to 400 GBP [£].

Funds available are limited. Please only apply for the money that you require. In some circumstances, we will not be able to provide the full amount of money requested.

It may be that this funding will not cover all the costs of your proposed activity. We would also recommend that you apply to the YSI Event Grant if you are eligible to.

Any funds your receive will be subject to the exchange rate on the day of sending. While we try to absorb all international transfer fees, this may not always be possible.

How does the process work?
There are four application deadlines to the RE Activity Fund in the year:

31 January
30 April
31 July
31 October

This application round will close on 01/05/2025.

Applications are reviewed by a mixture of elected Membership Officers who sit on the Rethinking Economics Members' Council and members of the Rethinking Economics International Staff Team. Applicants will be contacted within three weeks of each application deadline. Please bear in mind that there can be up to 6 weeks delay between the closing of the applications and the payment of the funding, so don't plan any events too soon after the date.

In instances where there are more applications than finances available, the successful applications will be selected by the Rethinking Economics Members' Council. Further questions may be directed to applicants before funding is granted. The decision of the Membership Circle is final. Feedback and support will be given to all unsuccessful applications.
