Reading Teachers = Reading Pupils (RTRP) ignites a love of reading in teachers and children. RTRP is a national network of teachers reading groups designed to inspire children to read for pleasure because research shows that children who read for pleasure experience high levels of well-being, engage in learning and are successful in life.
David Rawlings, CYP Development Officer at Stroud District Council (SDC) is working in partnership with the Learning and Participation Manager at Cheltenham Literature Festival to deliver this Independent RTRP group for local teachers:
Stroud District Reading Teachers = Reading Pupils Independent Group for KS2 (Year 5 & 6)
What's involved?
Five booktalk sessions per academic year with a launch meeting on Tuesday 8th October.
Teachers receive five books free of charge.
The sessions run from 4.30pm and finish by 6pm
Venue: Three Storeys Cafe, Nailsworth – refreshments provided
The expectation is that teachers read the books, turn up to group meetings*, contribute to the discussion and share the books with children in their classes.
* with awareness and appreciation that teaching is a busy profession and that attendance may need to be variable, especially as this is an afterschool meeting.
