Place making: Improving services, engagement and satisfaction in estate communities

HQN is working on an exciting project to design a “toolkit” to help social housing providers in Australia improve estates and schemes where there are special challenges. We want to hear from social housing landlords in the UK who have faced similar issues and are willing to share their experiences.

We’re looking to write up a series of case studies of how organisations went about tackling the challenges in a particular locality, and what they and residents have achieved. This may include approaches and initiatives across different types of localities’, such as estates, neighbourhoods or even broader approaches across regional area. We’re researching all types of localities and are especially interested in scattered or rural stock. Former stock transfer homes, tenant management organisations and PFI schemes are also of interest. We’d like to hear about your experiences of multi-agency working and community building in disadvantaged neighbourhoods. For clarity, we’re looking at placemaking rather than physical renewal of the housing.

Our survey is in five sections covering the basics of the place, residents and involvement, estate management, placemaking and metrics. It should take no more than 10 minutes to complete. There are quite a few questions, but we hope that will allow you to include as much detail as possible.

If you have more than one potential case study, please complete the survey again for each one. We won’t publish any identifying details about you, your organisation or the locality or initiative and won’t pass on your details to anyone else, without your permission.
