Drumming project - applications

Dear families,

I am proud to share with you that, following a successful 10-week research project, we have secured funding for another round of these much-loved drumming sessions for our students.

You might have seen us on BBC in November, when the news team came to see this project in action: https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=323812995853053

In February, we will invite 20 new drummers to a 10-week programme with our tutor, Luigi Marino, PhD (Hartpury University).

Since the participant numbers are very limited due to the research nature of this project, we are asking you to read the information about the project and share with us reasons why you and your child feel that this would be interesting and beneficial.

We would like to thank you for your time in considering this opportunity to take part in this research project. If your child would like to participate, please read about the project and complete this form before 18 February 2022.

We are able to deliver this survey in a paper form or fill it with you over the phone.

Yours sincerely,
Sara Muršić Head of Autism Research and Development

About the Drumming project

Partners: Hartpury University, Clem Burke, Youth Music, Art Council England

Aim of the project: We are hoping to explore and understand what potential benefits drumming can offer to a child’s social and physical abilities and skills.  For this reason, we are including children with a range of capabilities.

Duration: Total of 10 weeks, which includes drumming activities and data recording sessions.

This project involves some of the students participating in a drumming lessons and completing a number of simple tests of coordination and motor skill.  Half of the selected students will take part in the drumming lessons and the remaining half will participate in other activities not involving drumming. Some of the drum kits will be donated to the school at the end of the project, so everyone will be able to participate in the musical activities at some point (either as part of the project or after its completion).

At the end of the project, we will invite families to discuss the experience in an online group meeting with the research team.
