About ACF networks
ACF networks provide an opportunity for connection, discussion and learning between staff and trustees from trusts and foundations across the UK. We currently have 15 active member-led networks focusing on a range of themes, issues and foundation types. You can find out more about the networks on the networks page of the ACF website.

Networks are amongst the most valued part of ACF membership and we are excited that our strategy includes objectives to further strengthen connections across and beyond the sector, support foundations to aspire to and achieve excellent practice and advance diversity, equity and inclusion for our sector and for ACF.  In 2024 we will work closely with convenors to explore ways in which networks:

  • Catalyse collaborations between foundations and with others to achieve greater impact
  • Cultivate vibrant communities of practice and build brave spaces to share knowledge and ideas
  • Seize and create opportunities to connect with partners to advance our common goals
  • Curate inspiring, practical and accessible learning and support
  • Share practical tools and resources
  • Build and sustain diverse and inclusive engagement in our network spaces
  • Champion and celebrate practice which addresses systemic inequities

We recruit convenors on a bi-annual basis, towards the end of the calendar year and again in the summer. We look for a commitment of between one and three years as convenor, allowing for convenors to develop a programme that reflects and responds to the needs of the sector. New convenors are supported by ACF staff and existing network convenors, and convenors come together on a regular basis to share insights, experiences and ideas.

Each network has two volunteer convenors from two different ACF member organisations who work together to deliver an annual programme of events, share resources and foster new connections, approaches and ideas. The convenor role typically involves the following main activities:

  • planning and facilitating two or three network meetings a year*
  • using sectoral insight to develop meetings that meet the needs of ACF members
  • engaging high quality speakers to speak at the network meetings
  • sharing and cascading knowledge, information and resources

*a minimum of two of meetings are online to facilitate networking between as wide a range of members as possible

ACF support for networks and network convenors
ACF supports the role of convenor through providing advice on meeting structure, advertising the meetings, managing bookings and booking communications, and hosting the meetings online. ACF is responsible for all convenor recruitment, and creating, communicating, and implementing the governance policies that guide the networks; these policies will be shared with anyone that submits an application and in advance of any interviews for convenor roles.

Current convenor opportunities
