Thank you for responding to our survey of coach operators. The purpose of the survey is to understand the services that you provide, the carrying capacity of your fleet, and its interaction with accessibility requirements. The results will be anonymised.
We are asking for:
- the size of your coach fleet
- the types and geographical spread of your services
- your coaches' compliance and any exemptions from the Public Service Vehicles Accessibility Regulations 2000 (PSVAR) and the Public Service Vehicles (Accessible Information) Regulations 2023 (AIR)
The PSVAR 2000 [opens in a new window] set accessibility requirements for buses and coaches adapted to carry 23 passengers or more (in addition to the driver) on local or scheduled services. Schedule 1 [opens in a new window] details wheelchair accessibility requirements and Schedule 3 [opens in a new window] the specific accessibility requirements for coaches.
The AIR [opens in a new window] mandates, for buses and coaches that carry 17 passengers or more, announcements about the route and direction of travel, upcoming stops, diversions, service termination and 'hail and ride sections' being provided in both audible and visible formats. Guidance on the requirements of AIR [opens in a new window] is available.
Note that the guidance provided to assist with survey completion does not constitute legal advice and is not a substitute for following the legal requirements set out in accessibility regulations applicable to public service vehicles.
Closing date is 28 April 2025.
