Eligibility for the medal is limited to those who have:
in the Merchant Navy or Fishing Fleets of the United Kingdom, Isle of Man, the Channel Islands and the British Overseas Territories.
These nominees must have shown devotion to duty and exemplary service, which has been of particular value and has constituted an outstanding example to others.
Recipients of the medal will normally be required to have completed 20 years’ good conduct and exemplary service, although in exceptional circumstances the period of service may be less.
Nominations can be submitted through the online form, post or email. All sections must be completed.
In order to complete the form you will require:
- The date of birth (or approximate age), contact and employment details of the person you wish to nominate.
- Your own contact details.
- A recommendation by yourself detailing why the nominee should be considered for the award.
- At least two letters of support from additional persons.
If, after 2 years, your nominee has not been successful you must re-nominate them if you still wish them to be considered. It is unlikely however that the outcome will be different unless additional achievements are given.
