Review of careers education, information, advice, and guidance: Information sheet – Parents/carers survey

Please take the time to read the following information. Please contact us if there is anything that is unclear, or you would like more information.

Introduction
At Ofsted we research and report on specific issues relating to aspects of children’s and young people’s education, learning and care alongside our core inspection programme. We are currently carrying out a review of careers’ education, information, advice, and guidance (CEIAG).

What are we doing and why?

The government have asked Ofsted to carry out a review of the careers guidance for learners from lower socio economic backgrounds in schools, and further education providers.
We are writing to invite all parents, regardless of background, to share your views on the careers guidance your child has received from their school/college.

What will happen if I agree to take part?
If you agree to participate, you will be asked to respond to multiple choice as well as free-text questions about your thoughts on the careers guidance your child has received.
All survey questions are optional and provide an opportunity for you to share as much or as little as you wish.
The survey will take approximately 15 minutes to complete. You can stop and resume the survey at your convenience- you will be given an option to save it.
There are no right or wrong answers, we are simply interested in your experience, so please answer as honestly as possible.

How we deal with your information
What will we do with what you tell us?
Alongside the parent survey, we will be visiting schools and colleges to talk to staff members and learners about careers guidance. After that, we will publish a report based on what we have found out.

We will not name you or your child in the information we record. We will keep as little information about you or child as possible, such as their year group.

We will not share yours or your child’s information with anyone outside of Ofsted. Nobody outside Ofsted will have access to the information unless the law requires it.
Although our research team will review surveys, please do not use this survey to raise safeguarding concerns or include sensitive information. Safeguarding concerns should be raised by contacting Ofsted via enquiries@ofsted.gov.uk.

How long do we keep your personal information?
We will keep the information we record, including a copy of this form, for at least two years after the project has finished.
We will ensure that you cannot be identified from any information we publish in the report.

What are your rights?

The legal basis we rely on to process your personal information for this project is Article 6(1)(a) of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). This is where we have your consent to process your personal information.

You have the right to choose not to take part in this research.

You can change your mind and decide you do not want to take part. You are not under any obligation to participate. If you do complete the survey, you will be asked to confirm your consent before you begin.
If you decide to participate but at a later point would like to have your data withdrawn from the research, please contact the research team on researchquestion@ofsted.gov.uk. You will have until October 2024 to do so, after that all personal identifiable information will be removed from completed surveys.
