JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: TEMPORARY FUNDRAISER

Reporting to: DIRECTOR OF TONBRIDGE SOCIETY

Main purpose:
The position of the Temporary Fundraiser involves contacting Tonbridge School Old Boys and current parents by telephone for a variety of reasons which include updating their details, finding out what they have gone on to do since leaving, informing them of the latest school news and events and asking them if they are able to make a donation to the Tonbridge Society to support bursaries at the school.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • To act as an ambassador for Tonbridge School.
  • To engage Tonbridge School Old Boys and parents in conversation and establish a rapport.
  • To effectively communicate the School’s activities, accomplishments and goals.
  • To request alumni and parents to make a financial contribution to Tonbridge School.
  • To represent the School in a professional manner and handle each phone call with courtesy, tact and sensitivity.
  • To update details accordingly with accuracy and confidentiality onto a database.
  • To assist Old Boys and parents understand the goals and the importance of the Tonbridge School’s fundraising.
  • To work to achieve daily and weekly individual or team targets as determined by the Supervisor and work effectively with other members of the Student Calling Team.
  • To adhere to employment expectations and performance standards including attending each shift punctually.
  • To develop techniques to improve performance, deal with objections and develop the structure and style of your calls.
  • To undertake any other duty as requested of you by your line manager.
Confidentiality

The successful candidate must maintain the confidentiality of information regarding the School, its staff and its business. Information must not be communicated to other persons either in or outside the School except in the recognised course of their duties.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:
  • A recent leaver of Tonbridge School.
  • Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written.
  • Excellent listening skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a dynamic team environment.
  • Previous experience in dealing with people from a wide range of backgrounds.
  • Ability to use your own initiative in a variety of situations.
  • Confident, positive and friendly disposition.
  • Reliable and hardworking.
  • An understanding of the importance of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work all shifts during campaigns.
  • Previous experience in a similar capacity is not essential as we provide intensive and thorough training (see below) which covers all aspects of the role.
 
APPLICATION DEADLINE
The application deadline is Friday 17th September 2021 at midday. Interviews will be conducted via telephone from w/c 20th September.

HOURS OF WORK
Training will take place on 13th and 14th November 2021 and calling shifts will take from Monday 15th to Sunday 28th November 2021. Successful candidates will need to be able to attend the compulsory training from 10am – 5pm on 13th and 14th November.

The campaign will take place remotely, so you will need to have a suitable workspace with an excellent internet connection.

Standard calling shifts take place between 6.15pm and 9.30pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday evenings; between 10am and 5pm on Saturdays and between 3pm and 8pm on Sundays. We do not call on Fridays. There will be an unpaid one hour break on Saturday shifts and a paid half hour break at Sunday shifts. There may also be some additional daytime sessions. Callers will be expected to attend a fifteen minute briefing before each calling session which has been factored into the session times above.

REMUNERATION AND BENEFITS
  • £10.65 per hour (includes appropriate holiday pay) paid a month in arrears on a timesheet
The post-holder’s responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for whom he or she is responsible, or with whom he or she comes into contact will be to adhere to and ensure compliance with the School’s Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy at all times. If in the course of carrying out the duties of the post the post-holder becomes aware of any actual or potential risks to the safety or welfare of children in the School he or she must report any concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead or to the Headmaster.
